Spence: Important To Remember Zoe

Ladies pay tribute to youngster after title triumph.

Everton Ladies manager Andy Spence has revealed how it was a collective idea from the playing squad and staff to pay tribute to the late Zoe Tynan after winning the WSL 2 Spring Series on Saturday.

The Blue Girls beat London Bees 4-0 at The Hive and remembered the former Everton Ladies player by wearing t-shirts featuring her photo and name when collecting their winners' medals.

Everyone at the Club was deeply saddened to learn of Zoe’s passing last November, aged 18.

An England youth international, she spent six years with the Blues’ Centre of Excellence before joining Manchester City.

“Zoe was a very special person for us all here at Everton - that affinity and attachment with the Ladies' team was very clear,” Spence explained.

“I know her family had the full support and love of everyone at Everton Football Club. We just felt it was a nice gesture, especially given that it would have been Zoe’s 19th birthday.

“Zoe was someone who we fondly remember. We won’t forget her, that’s for sure, because she was part of our Everton family.”

Spence believes the Ladies’ 4-0 win over London Bees was an excellent way to wrap up the Spring Series title and offers a huge boost for when the full WSL campaign gets going in September.

He added: “We went into the game on Saturday knowing there was a strong chance we would win the Spring Series, given the goal difference we had.

“The target and focus in the whole week was to make sure we finish well. To come away with another 4-0 victory and another clean sheet is really pleasing.

“I’m delighted for all the players and staff because there has been lot of hard work, particularly over the last couple of months when we have really pushed on as a group.

“It really sets us up for the future.”
