Skipper departs after contract expires
Midfielder Jill Scott has decided to leave Everton following the expiration of her contract.
As captain, Jill made 20 appearances during the 2013 campaign, while also participating in the European Championships for England.
She signed from Sunderland in 2006 and soon became a fan favourite, with her goalscoring exploits earning her international recognition and helping the Blues to FA Cup and League Cup success, while also earning the Toffees a place in European competition.
Her consistent form for Everton saw her named FA Women’s Player of the Year in 2008 then FA Women’s International Player of the Year in 2011.
On her decision to leave, Jill said: “I have had seven great years at the Club but just felt like this was the right time to seek a new challenge.
“I would like to thank everybody at the club especially Mo Marley and Andy Spence because if it hadn’t been for them and Everton, I wouldn't have been given the opportunities I have had at international level or had the chance to win honours like the FA Cup and League Cup.
“The girls have been fantastic over the years and it's really difficult to leave such a great Club but I'm sure they will continue to do a great job at representing Everton in the WSL. There are also a number of excellent young players at the Club with great potential to develop over the coming years.
“Finally I would like to say thank you to the supporters that have turned out every week to support us it really does mean a lot.”
Blues boss Andy Spence praised the transformation of the departing midfielder, adding: “I would like to thank Jill for the excellent contribution she has made during her seven years with Everton. Both on and off the pitch Jill has made a valuable contribution to the development of the club.
“She joined us as a young player back in 2006 with lots of potential and leaves as an established senior international and one of the most recognised names in the women's game.
“On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to wish Jill the very best for the future.”
