A lot of people will be wondering where we have gone since the end of last season and what we have been up to well the aim of this blog will be to fill you all in so to speak.
An advantage of The WSL running through the Summer meant over Christmas we were given a break so come January we were ready to hit Pre-Season hard. All players were allowed to enjoy christmas and new year only to be greeted by a day of fitness testing come the new year! Ouch! Enjoyable – No, Beneficial – Apparently so! The aim being all player's base fitness scores were recorded (Speed, Speed Endurance, Agility, Aerobic) then when Pre-Season is over see how much we have improved! Happy New Year!
We started training the 3rd January with Everton the plan being two sessions in the week and one on a weekend. The first week definitely brought heavy legs and a lot of pain the morning after, even getting out of bed was a struggle! But you know what they say “No pain, No gain”.
Last season we struggled with a few injuries, prevention strategies therefore have been highlighted as a must. Before every session we will meet in the gym for half an hour and go through an array of exercises to strengthen weaknesses we have. For example throwing a 10kg medicine ball at each other and trying to catch when in a stabilised position (Not easy)!
A lot of our training has been based around replicating match play which has been a massive positive because at the end of the day the aim of the new season will be to win football matches. January seen a few of the girls go on international duty to La Manga for a training camp, alright for some I hear you say, just don’t mention to the U23’s 7 o clock wake up everyday! The girls who weren’t away carried on their training with Everton with pyramid runs and another set of fitness testing!
February has seen the announcement of a confirmed fixture v Hibernian on the 19th of February at Marine FC (1pm) Its always great to put into practise what we have been working hard at on the training pitch and hope you are as excited as us about the game.
A lot of you will have heard the news that Rachel Unitt has sadly left Everton to sign for Birmingham Ladies. All the girls will miss Unitt a lot on and off the pitch and we wish her all best for next season (well not too much)! Where one door closes another one opens and this will present the younger players with a great opportunity to stake a place in the team.
On another note we have also launched our official twitter page where you can keep up to date with everything from fixtures to competitions and even some general gossip! Get following @Evertonladies
Right well that’s all from me! Hope this has updated you and proved that we haven’t disappeared just working hard and looking forward to a successful 2012, we thank you all for your support!
Jill :)
