Centre of Excellence graduate moves to Notts County for undisclosed fee.
Everton can confirm that Alex Greenwood has completed a permanent transfer to Notts County.
The Centre of Excellence graduate has moved to the FA WSL 1 side for an undisclosed fee.
Manager Andy Spence was disappointed to lose England international Greenwood but insisted he remains positive it will not harm the Blues’ chances of returning to WSL 1 at the first time of asking.
“Very early on in discussions, Alex said to me that she felt that, particularly with it being a World Cup year, she wanted to remain in WSL 1,” he explained. “But she also made it very clear to us that she wanted it to be a permanent transfer away from the Club.
“Obviously she’s a player who has been with us since the age of eight; it’s disappointing that she’s made that decision to move away permanently.
“However, at the end of the day, I’m pragmatic in my view that I only want players who are fully committed to Everton and none more so in WSL 2 because it will really test character. And of course we can’t always financially compete with WSL 1 clubs at this time - but I know as a Club we are moving in the right direction and the direction I feel we need to.”
Spence has already moved to replace Greenwood with the capture of former Blues defender Ellie Stewart from neighbours Liverpool.
