Four Blues Get Senior Call

Fara Williams scores for England

Four Everton Ladies have been called-up to the England senior squad for this season's Cyprus Cup in March.

Four Everton Ladies have been called-up to the England senior squad for this season's Cyprus Cup in March.

Defensive duo Rachel Unitt and Lindsay Johnson and midfield pair Jill Scott and Fara Williams make the cut, while goalkeeper Rachel Brown wasn't considered for selection as she continues her recovery from knee surgery.

The news follows Tuesday's England Under-23s squad announcement for the La Manga Tournament, where a further five of Mo Marley's squad will be travelling to Spain for international competition.

Hope Powell?s seniors will face Italy on 2 March before taking on Scotland two days later and Canada on March 7. They will then play one final match on March 9 against any one of the eight other nations, depending on the final group standings.

The annual tournament will provide the Blues with vital competitive football to impress Powell ahead of this summer's Women's World Cup in Germany.

The competition will also present valuable competitive action for the Everton representatives, as their Women's Champions League quarter-final clash with FCR 2001 Duisberg takes place just a week after their return from Cyprus.

?The Cyprus Cup is important for us because, although playing one-off games is great, it?s important players understand the demands of tournament play, especially in a World Cup year,? said England manager Powell.

?It?s great preparation for the World Cup because we are playing teams that we don?t normally play and we will be facing a non-European side in Canada, so it?s good to be able to get that exposure.

?It will be challenging, but necessary.?

England Seniors: Karen Bardsley (Sky Blue), Siobhan Chamberlain (Bristol Academy), Sophie Bradley (Lincoln Ladies), Lindsay Johnson (Everton), Alex Scott (Boston Breakers), Casey Stoney (Chelsea), Dunia Susi (Birmingham City), Rachel Unitt (Everton), Faye White (Arsenal), Anita Asante (Sky Blue), Laura Bassett (Birmingham City), Jess Clarke (Lincoln Ladies), Steph Houghton (Arsenal), Jill Scott (Everton), Sue Smith (Lincoln Ladies), Fara Williams (Everton), Rachel Yankey (Arsenal), Eniola Aluko (Sky Blue), Kelly Smith (Boston Breakers), Ellen White (Arsenal).
