Blues Swoop For King

Spence adds midfielder with signing number five.

Everton Ladies have made their fifth signing of the season with the capture of midfielder Jess King, subject to international clearance.

Born and raised in Liverpool, King moved out to Canada to play for Trinity Western University Spartans while studying, but returns to Merseyside to join Andy Spence’s Blues.

Capable of playing in midfield or as a forward, King is delighted to continue her career back in her home town.

“It's a privilege to play for a club as big as Everton and it feels really good to be here,” she said. “I was at Liverpool for my youth and then went over to Canada to play for four years.

“I was able to develop a lot out there because it's a really good standard. It took me a couple of years to adjust to the play out there because it's a different style but once I got a grasp of that, I was able to contribute to each game.”

Having picked up the Canada West Most Valuable Player Award at the end of her final season with the Spartans, after scoring 12 goals, King is now focused on forcing her way into the Blues’ starting line-up.

“I think I've got more confidence now, which is a big thing for every player,” she added. “My intensity, work ethic and drive to win every ball will hopefully have a positive impact on the Everton squad.

“I'm playing centre midfield at the moment. I love to run with the ball and playing little passes into players but whatever Andy asks of me, I'll do.

“I love the squad here; I'm really happy and feel at home. There's a lot of good banter and they've all made me feel welcome.

“It's really cool to be able to play at such a top-notch facility and get to experience life as a professional footballer.”
