Everton Ladies trio Rachel Unitt, Fara Williams and Jill Scott helped England to their first victory in 22 years over the USA, as they won 2-1 at Brisbane Road on Saturday evening.
The success against the world's number one side is likely to give Hope Powell's team huge confidence going into the FIFA Women's World Cup which is now under three months away.
The Three Lions took the lead on eight minutes, with Scott heavily involved in the build-up that allowed Lincoln Ladies' Jess Clarke to volley home from close range.
Player of the match Williams, then went close to scoring England's second, her effort flying just over the bar on 22 minutes.
But the hosts did double their lead soon after, Arsenal duo Kelly Smith and Rachel Yankey combining to allow Yankey to smash the ball into the top corner.
America reduced the deficit six minutes before the break when Megan Rapinoe found the bottom corner from just outside the penalty area.
Both Stephanie Cox and Heather O'Reilly went close to finding an equaliser for the USA but England held on to record an excellent victory.
A further three Everton ladies; Rachel Brown, Natasha Dowie and Lindsay Johnson were unused substitutes for England.
